Bright On Capital is a peer-to-peer online enterprise-lending platform, which serves as an online market place allowing SMEs to simply and quickly raise working capital funding from a wide-range of traditional and non-traditional lenders. Our lending partners include development funding institutions (“DFIs”), corporate enterprise development funds and other institutional investors. Bright On has also partnered with a number of South African corporates, government and other large enterprises to provide their SME suppliers with the ability to raise affordable working capital funding on the back of their invoices that are payable by these large enterprises.

Tsepo is a director of Bright On, a 100% owned subsidiary of New Brighton Capital. Tsepo is also the founding partner of New Brighton Capital. Prior to establishing New Brighton, Tsepo formed Alternative Equity Partners (“AEP”) a US$100 million pan-African private equity fund-of-funds business for Brait South Africa Limited, and was the Chief Executive Officer of that business for 3 years. Tsepo also spent 3 years at Eskom Pension & Provident Fund where he managed the fund´s R2.5 billion alternative asset portfolio. This portfolio included a R1.5 billion private equity portfolio composed of over 20 private equity funds and a number of direct investments. The portfolio also included a R1 billion Socially Responsible Investment (“SRI”) program, which invested in a range funds and made a number of direct SRI and BEE investments. Tsepo´s previous experience also includes 3 years as a private equity investment manager at the Southern Africa Enterprise Development Fund, where his core responsibilities included managing the fund´s financial services and technology, media and telecommunications investments across Southern Africa.
Koena joined the Bright On team in 2014. He was previously at Telsaf Data, a radio frequency installation company, as an account manager. Koena was responsible for Telkom Mobile account for 3 years, ensuring the smooth and timely execution throughout the contract period. Prior to Telsaf Data, Koena was at iBurst Wireless as the logistics supervisor. The position included managing the delivery of all products nationally, as well as working with the database administrators in maintaining and upgrading the logistics back end system. Koena attained a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems Technology from the University of Houston in Texas.
Oct 2015 - Bright On launched its operation, allowing Black-owned SMEs to finance invoices payable to Corporates and their subsidiaries.
Jan 2016 - Bright On began piloting its purchase-order finance product.
- SMEs can now simply and rapidly raise up to R500 000 of invoice and purchase-order finance through the Bright On platform, and we expect the size of loans to increase rapidly as we add more funders to the platform over the next few months.
- 2 Initial lenders have allocated funds onto the Bright On platform to be on-lent to principally Black-owned SMEs
- The commitments are made up of corporate ESD funding, which is seeking to fund its own SME suppliers (SD) and other SMEs (ED) operating in its sector.
